Rhobes’ Ruminations

           Rhobes

Although I’m a newcomer to the hockey scene, I have fallen deeply, profoundly in love with the sport. With its hard-hitting, fast pace, its characters that range from the eccentricity of Alexander Ovechkin to the quiet precision of Sidney Crosby, and its elegant combination of speed, power, grace, and strategy, I am ashamed that I haven’t been a hockey fan my entire life.
Admittedly, I’m a basketball guy at heart. My winters have been traditionally dominated by obsessing over the high school, college, and professional hoops scenes. But, I have a new obsession: the Washington Capitals.
There’s only one thing that stands in the way of my Caps fanhood: my location nine months out of the year (most of those being during hockey season). As a student at Notre Dame, I’m surrounded by (faux) Blackhawks fans and have very few people to share my love for the Caps with. Even worse, I’ve been forced to catch the occasional game on Versus if I’m lucky or crappy, illegal live feeds. Every time I see someone rocking the red with a T-shirt jersey or Capitals hat, I have the sudden urge to scream “C-A-P-S, CAPS, CAPS, CAPS” and hope they join me.
For most of the year, I’m relegated to “Gamecasting,” following statuses on Facebook, and watching highlights on NHL.com. Basically, I’m in a Capitals-less void that prevents me from fully participating and watching every game.
I pine for summer when I’ll be able to watch Washington’s run to the Stanley Cup. If you think my credibility as a blogger is hurt by this, I understand. But, I will follow the Capitals to the best of my ability, and I hope you appreciate my efforts. Rock the Red.
In Ovi we trust.

  1. I love the Adaptation reference.

I hope Ovechkin can start playing well. He has been absent most of the season, which is unfortunate since he is so fun to watch.
